The Catalonian province of Barcelona stretches from the Costa Brava in the north, down to the Costa Dorada in the south and covers inland wine growing and agricultural areas, reaching up to the foothills of the Pyrenees. Barcelona is well connected to the rest of Spain and to Southern France via motorways and rail.

Barcelona enjoys a pleasant sunny climate all year round, the temperature ranges from an average of 10ºC in January to 25ºC in the summer months. Rainfall is quite high with an average of 1000mm a year, making for green and fertile areas.

The capital of Barcelona is a is a cosmopolitan hotbed of culture and art that moves at a dynamic pace. A thriving modern city with a rich cultural heritage that is internationally renowned. Barcelona can seem like an architectural ice cream parlour with its dazzling aray of styles and buildings. Home to Gaudí’s world famous architectural masterpieces, Barcelona is a city proud of its Catalan roots, yet is forward thinking and prosperous.

Barcelona’s beaches attract huge numbers of visitors each summer and there is something for everyone, from the frenetic party resorts of Sitges, the package resorts of the Costa Dorada and Costa Brava or the quiet, undiscovered rocky coves tucked away on hidden parts of the coast.

Inland, the towns of the Barcelona range from the industrial modern towns near to Barcelona City to the quiet provincial backwaters further afield where architectural monuments of bygone eras are waiting to be explored. Despite Barcelona’s popularity with international visitors, the rural areas of Barcelona remain virtually untouched and the pace of life continues as it has done for centuries.
